It has been stated that the best water skiers don’t need skis and the best are coming to Helena, Montana.
USA Water Ski & Wake Sport and the American Barefoot Club are pleased to announce that the 2023 US National Barefoot Championships will be held in Helena, Montana from August 24-27, 2023. Water Ski Mania is a private water-ski site 2 miles north of Helena, Montana (at 4060 Buoy Blvd, Helena, MT).
This event is open to the public to watch and includes three events within the discipline of barefoot waterskiing. The events are Slalom, Tricks and Jumping on August 25th, 26th, and 27th. Please BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair)
Slalom Event
This is an event where each skier gets two 15 second passes to cross the wake of the boat as many times as they can. One run is in the forwards position on one or two feet and the other pass is barefooting in the backwards position. For each one foot crossing a skier scores 1 point if they do it on 2 feet, they score ½ point.
Tricks Event
Each skier gets 2 passes to perform as many tricks as they can in 15 seconds. Each trick and start technique have a predetermined point value and the skier with the most points will be the winner.
Jumping
Each skier gets 3 passes over a jump which is 18 inch high at speeds up to 45 miles per hour. The world class skier will fly face first like superman and must ski away on their bare feet.
