As Summer gives way to crisp autumn weather and colorful foliage, Helena continues to bustle with creative opportunities. Pair an event with a drive in the surrounding mountains Scenic Drives for Your Fall Bucket List.

#10: Helena Ales for Trails

September 8

Helena Ales for Trails will celebrate their 12th of bringing together community partners to raise funds for the Helena trail system. Numerous breweries from across the state will be providing you with ample beverages to cheer with, while enjoying live music and tasty bites from food trucks. Before or after the festivities plan a hike on our extensive trail system.

This year’s event will return to Pioneer Park (located next to Lewis & Clark Library at the far southern end of the walking mall). Must be 21+ to attend.

#9: 2nd Annual Fall Fest

September 14 – 16

The arrival of fall deserves a celebration, and the Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds is going to light it up with three nights of concerts and four days and nights of carnival fun. Anticipate more surprises that will add flair to the event.

#8: 3rd Annual Septemberfest Soapbox Derby

September 15 & 16

There’s no age limit on hilarious fun during this two-day event. Friday’s family friendly activities include live music and a toy soapbox car racetrack for kids. Saturday kicks off with the Kids Fallfest in Pioneer Park, with the cool addition a classic car show. Midday the Soapbox Derby will rev up, followed by a party at venues downtown.

#7: Helena Symphony Masterworks Concert and After Party

September 16

The Helena Symphony celebrates its 69th year with two Montana Premieres including Tim Fain’s Edge of a Dream and Florence Price’s Third Symphony. The excitement of the evening continues with the Opening Night After Party with the opportunity to meet Maestro Scott, the Musicians and Board Members! Both the concert and festivities will be held at the Helena Civic Center.

#6: Sweet Bee Fall Vintage Market

September 29 – 30

Grab your family and friends for delightful shopping, food and live music hosted by Sweet Bee! Dozens of vendors will have a huge variety of curated items and handcrafted wares. There will be plenty of delicious baked goods to indulge in. Special live performance by local favorites Kendrick & Mondie.

#5: Last Chance Community Pow Wow

September 29 – October 1

This will be the 24th celebration with the theme ‘Honor the Children’. One of the missions of the Last Chance Community Pow Wow is to help teach youth the many traditions of Native American culture and to share this with their peers to create a better understanding between Native and non-Natives. The public is invited to join in the celebration at the Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds, and will include dancing, drumming, contests, raffles, concessions and arts and crafts.

#4: Queen City Oktoberfest

October 13 – 14

The Queen City Oktoberfest returns for its second year! Enjoy two days filled with music, rough stock rodeo, car show, contests, expo fair and more! There will be plenty of Montana’s finest craft brews to keep your steins full. The shenanigans will again take place at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds.

#3: Just for the Helena of It – Half Marathon & 5 K

October 15

Just for the Helena of It is in its second year running with a Half Marathon and 5K. The race is organized by the Treasure State Runners with the purpose to fundraise for Helena area nonprofits. The family-friendly Half Marathon route weaves through the scenic Spring Meadow State Park area.

#2: Montana Balloon Sculpture Festival

October 20 – 22

This event will showcase a unique twist to fundraise donations for local nonprofits. Sauter Balloons will decorate downtown Helena with large balloon displays. There will be opportunities for interactive play with balloon twisting, balloon popping and a raffle.

#1: Fall Art Walk

November 10

Celebrate local artists and businesses by taking an illuminating stroll along Last Chance Gulch 4pm – 8pm. Helena’s seasonal art walk brings downtown businesses, local artists, and the Helena community together to experience a variety of art in unique venues throughout the area. In addition to the art, there will be complimentary food and beverages, and live music!
