Downhill Skiing

You can’t go wrong with Great Divide Ski Area, especially with its 30-minute drive from Helena. Or simply drive 2 hours or so and arrive at Discovery, Bridger Bowl, and Showdown ski areas.

Tons of local trails to choose from for all skill levels. Stay in town and ski at Bill Roberts Golf Course, or head up to MacDonald Pass for a winter wonderland.

Feel the crunch of snow beneath your boots and take in breathtaking winter landscapes from our local trails. Mount Helena and Ascension offer easy downtown trail access with gratifying vistas. Within a short drive, you can hike to ice caves in the Elkhorns or mountain vistas in the Big Belts. Here, winter beauty is everywhere.

Fishing

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t fish. Helena’s local rivers, like the Blackfoot and Missouri, still flow year-round if you’re willing to brave their frigid temperatures for that perfect cast. Or head to Canyon Ferry, Hauser Lake, or Holter Lake to ice fish and enjoy good company and always-chilled drinks.

Hot Springs

End the day with a relaxing soak at Helena’s Broadwater Hot Springs. Your muscles will thank you. Want to soak and experience history at the same time? Boulder Hot Springs is just a short drive from Helena and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
