On Sunday, October 30 at 2 PM, please join Dr. Ari Lee Laskin in the Montana Jewish Project’s community room for an artist talk and dynamic discussion about his new film project, Memorial’s Undoing. He is seeking feedback—especially from the perspective of Montana’s Jews—as he frames his new work. He will also share early footage of his documentary.
This event will be shared on Zoom with advanced registration required. If you are in Helena, we would love for you to attend in person in MJP’s newly reclaimed historic Temple Emanu-El at 515 North Ewing.

Memorial’s Undoing is about the murder of 33,771 Jews over two days in 1941 at Babyn Yar, Ukraine—one terrible mass killing in the “Holocaust of Bullets.” Dr. Laskin’s documentary explores tensions around the concept of memorials, and poses additional critical questions, which he’ll discuss with the audience. The film negotiates the complex terrain between the past that refuses to be contained as history and a future always striving to be realized in the now.
Dr. Laskin is currently working as a National Endowment for the Humanities Project Director. For the past decade he has served as an Andrew W. Mellon post-doctoral fellow, media historian, and film professor. His films are shown internationally. He lives in Helena with his family.
