Medicine Wheel Sculpture Installation

June 21,, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Pocha Park - Helena, MT
Free
The Myrna Loy and the City of Helena Parks Department will host a ceremony dedicating a new sculptural installation at Pocha Park, 314 State Street, on Wednesday, June 21st at 2pm.
The sculpture is a welded steel climbable seating circle, created by Missoula artist James Walter and inspired by the Anishinaabe Medicine Wheel. Walter created the work as part of The Myrna Loy’s “Rodney Street Is…” project, with support from AARP Montana. Working with Native leader Daniel Pocha, he revised his initial design to reflect the four colors and directions of the Medicine Wheel of the Pocha family’s Anishinaabe culture.
Pocha Park was named for the late Leo Pocha, a City Commisioner, a civic leader, and Executive Director of Helena Indian Alliance.
The dedication will include light refreshments, speakers, music, and dancers from the Last Chance Community Pow Wow, Helena Indian Alliance, and other community groups. All are welcome.
