Historic Window Restoration Workshop

May 17, @ 10:00 am - 3:30 pm

$45 – $50

Windows are an essential feature on any historic building and properly maintained, they can last for hundreds of years. Participants will learn the techniques from Preserve Montana’s skilled restoration crew to fully restore and care for wood window sashes, from start to finish, as well as learn options for more energy efficiency.

This hands-on workshop will cover removing sash from their opening, stripping paint efficiently, repairs, cutting new glass, and glazing techniques. We will also dive into options for sealing drafty windows, from the best weatherstripping products to interior and exterior storms. It will be held at the Baxendale Schoolhouse Preservation Center in Helena.

Replacement windows are just that – windows that need to be replaced every 20-30 years. There are plenty of options to keep existing wood windows and make them work for the occupants of a building. The steps to get there are surprisingly easy and straightforward.

Preserve Montana is the statewide nonprofit with a mission to protect the historic places, traditional landscapes, and cultural heritage in Montana. Learn more at preservemontana.org.
