Aquatic Pet Rehoming Event

Do you have a pet that you are no longer able to care for? Don’t Let It Loose into the wild! Releasing unwanted pets and dumping aquarium contents can unintentionally introduce invasive species and diseases into Montana’s natural ecosystems. Instead, you can surrender your pet at the upcoming Aquatic Pet Rehoming Event from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. As a rare treat, Montana WILD’s main exhibit hall will also be open to the public during the event time.
This event is hosted by Invasive Species Action Network (ISAN), which manages the Don’t Let It Loose program. At this event, pet stores and animal rescues from around the state will be accepting fish, turtles, frogs, aquatic plants, and other aquatic pets for rehoming. Non-aquatic species, venomous animals, waterfowl, or domestic pets, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, birds, and chickens, will not be accepted. There will also be plenty of volunteers and activities to promote learning about prohibited species, other pet rehoming options, and the impacts of invasive species on Montana’s waters.
Pet surrender at this event is free to all. Registration for pet surrender is highly encouraged and can be found at dontletitloose.com/event/. Walk-in pet surrenders will be accepted as capacity allows.
